Ovu Foundation, a non-governmental organization committed to the development of Ovu community, particularly promotion of education has awarded scholarship to students.

Speaking during the 2026 Ovu Foundation scholarship award at Oviorie-Ovu, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, the Alternate President of Ovu Foundation, Professor Alphonsus Isara said that the Foundation focus on promoting education to develop the young ones in sound mind in education through yearly award of scholarship to pupils that performed excellently well in the scholarship screening examination.

Professor Isara further said that Ovu Foundation instituted the scholarship award to encourage academic competition and high academic performance, adding that the Foundation also organizes preparatory classes where the selected pupils are tutored and enrolled for the Federal Common Entrance Examination into Unity Schools.

He disclosed that in May every year the Foundation organizes scholarship screening examination and award for the winner comes up in August every year.

According to him; “This award is to take care of the students on secondary school education. This is our sixth award. For the past six years we have been awarding scholarships to pupils that met the set standard in Ovu community. We now have students that have passed from JSS 1 – SSS III by 2026/2027 academic session sponsored by Ovu Foundation.”

“It is usually a rigorous process to select a scholar. We have been very fair in the selection of a scholar, we have been very fair in the selection processes and we do not compromise the process or the standard. No favouritism in the process. We do it transparently” he added.

Professor Isara stated that every year during the second term, they go round the schools in Ovu Community and collect the names of pupils that came first and second in government primary schools and invite them for screening examination, and who came first in that examination become scholar and winner of the award.

He affirmed the commitment of members of the Foundation to the transparent process, adding that by next year, a scholar sponsored by the Foundation would have completed secondary school education and the Foundation would consider sponsoring for higher education level.

Professor Isara commended members’ interest of Ovu Foundation for their time and resources and also commended the Oviorie Model Primary School for winning the scholarship award consecutively. He thanked the Headmistress, Dr. (Mrs.) Juliet Ataine and her Assistant, Mr. Peter Akponemu and teachers of the school for maintaining high standard.

He congratulated the award winner and his parents and urged the scholar to maintain high aggregates in his subjects.

Responding on behalf of the Oviorie Model Primary School Headmistress, Mr. Peter Akponemu thanked Ovu Foundation for their efforts, time and resources for the award of scholarships.

The beneficiary and winner of the scholarship award, Master Abundance Oghenekohworho Orekevwie thanked Ovu Foundation for the scholarship award for his secondary education.

He promised to put more efforts in his studies and will not disappoint Ovu Foundation.
